OPEN MIC AGREEMENTS:
These agreements are for performers and also audience members. This open mic exists to support and uplift marginalized folks. People who identify as women, transgender, queer, or LGBT are encouraged to step to the front. This space is for you. Allies, you are still welcome to perform, but please remember that you are not an ally just because you say you are, and you are definitely not an ally if you can not exist in this space following these agreements:
NO HATEFUL OR OPPRESSIVE CONTENT: Your performance should never include any content that is transphobic, homophobic, sexist, racist, ableist, etc. If you break this agreement the microphone will be turned off during your performance and you will be asked to exit the stage area without further comment.
RESPECT GENDER PRONOUNS: You are encouraged to introduce yourself with your gender pronouns in this space! Respect the pronouns of others as you would like yours respected. If you have not been told someone’s pronouns, please use neutral pronouns or just the person’s name. Again, asking and sharing pronouns is encouraged. If you misgender someone correct yourself and move on.
ENCOURAGE, DON’T HECKLE: Don’t make someone else’s performance about you. If you have comments, tell them afterwards. It’s already nerve-wracking enough to be vulnerable in the spotlight. On the flip side… if you hear someone mutter “ah I messed up” in between strums, an encouraging “WOO! You’re doing great!” is acceptable and encouraged. Which leads into… BE A SUPPORTIVE AUDIENCE MEMBER: Please, no talking while performances are ha

Music Open Mic at Imurj is for local musicians to showcase their talent & skills on our fully amplified main stage - as an all ages venue, we welcome all genres and skill levels, and entry to play or watch is free.
SIGN-UP opens at 6:30pm and the stage is live at 7pm. You must be present to sign-up and the list is first come, first served. Each performer gets 2 songs or 10 minutes max on stage (on the rare slow night we can allow 3 songs). The timer begins when you take the stage, so please tune your instruments and get your backing tracks (on a flash drive) to the sound engineer in advance. We strive to foster a diverse creative community, encouraging new talent and supporting one another. Original music is highly encouraged, but covers are also welcome.
Brian Jones is your host & runs the Facebook Live stream of each performance - if you need any house equipment, please let him know and he’ll accommodate you. He will also let you know when your approximate time will be, and when that time is approaching. If he cannot find you for your turn, you’ll be moved to the end of the list, so pay attention!
GEAR
We provide a full backline of instruments and are a fully amplified with a professional sound engineer. If you’re not sure if you need something, feel free to message/call us and ask! If you have gear that you can’t perform your set without, please keep it to the right of the stage so the walkways are clear for everyone to move around the venue.
INTRODUCE YOURSELF: When you take the stage feel free to remind us of your name, tell us when your next gig is, where we can find your music, and the title of your song. But save the in-depth stories for your full shows and give us something to look forward to!
Finally, we’re not here to stifle your creativity, but we are an all ages venue, so don’t force us to censor you - please help us keep it classy by keeping profanities to a minimum whenever possible, especially if you notice kids in the house. Please and thank you!
