Kapistahan Grill

Sunday Jump for Monday's Slump!

Sunday Jump is a community open mic series at Kapistahan Grill in Historic Filipinotown, Los Angeles. It was founded by Eddy M. Gana, Jr., Stephanie Sajor, and Janice Sapigao. Once a month, we provide a safe space for artists to express free speech and uplift their communities through the spoken and written word. Our organization's leaders are award-winning poets and community activists who have shared their work across the nation.

Historic Filipinotown is the heart of our cultural community. As Filipino-Americans, we acknowledge the marginalization of our people's history, such as our unrecognized WWII veterans and forgotten agricultural workers of the labor movement. In recognition of this history, we aim to provide a safe space for marginalized voices to express free speech and uplift their communities.

When: Every 1st Sunday of the Month, 5-7pm

Where: Kapistahan Grill, 1925 W. Temple St., Los Angeles, CA 90026

The mic is open for poets, musicians, emcees, and all artists to share and build a community with us!

Open mic-ers have 5 minutes max.

We have two community guidelines: (1) Express, not impress and (2) Free speech, not hate speech. It's not about the snaps and claps. It's about sharing the love of your art. It's not about putting people down. It's about uplifting our communities.

Please support Kapistahan Grill! This is a Filipino-owned local business that serves traditional Philippine cuisine. Available to dine kamayan style (eat with hands). They have lechon kawali (deep fried pork belly), chicken inasal (grilled marinated chicken), shrimp sinigang, halo-halo, and more! Variety of beverages are served, such as buko juice (coconut) and Red Horse. There will be good food and good vibes.

Free parking is available in Luzon Plaza and along Temple St.

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact us at openmic@sundayjump.com.

The Lost Knight

phone:213-278-0408
venue:thelostknight.com
host:brendacarseyart.com

This weekly musicians’ open mic began in January 2016 by Brenda Carsey with the intentions of bringing community together, connecting people, creating a comfortable and creative environment for people to share in, and having a night of hanging and fun!

THE RUN DOWN:

SIGN UPS: sign ups BEGIN AT 7:30pm and END at 8:15pm sharp. Visit the main Tap Room bar, order a drink or food to support the venue, grab a ticket from the bartender, then come visit me near the sound booth, I'll snag your ticket from you, and we'll get you all signed up!

There will be a MAXIMUM of 35 people that will be able to sign up each week. Come early! DEPENDING ON THE AMOUNT OF PEOPLE THAT SIGN UP, each person that signs up will get to play 1 song/5 mins or possibly 2 songs/8 mins. Please know the length of your songs before arriving to be sure that your time on stage (including your song, plugging in and packing up, and talking) stays within the maximum time limit. Thank you in advance!

OPEN MIC and FEATURED ARTIST: the open mic will then begin AT 8:20pm-ish or as soon as I can start the show! The night is a random, pull out of the jar process so that who is up next will be a surprise. So be prepared to play at any moment. And don't worry. I'll still be sure to share who is in the hole, who is on deck, and who is up next to take the stage.

The Open Mic will be split into two halves sandwiching the featured artist's yumminess in the middle.

open mic FIRST HALF: 8:30pm to 10:00pm

FEATURED ARTIST: 10:00pm to 10:25pm

open mic SECOND HALF: 10:30pm to 12:00am

Please BRING YOUR OWN INSTRUMENTS/guitars/keyboards.

WE WILL PROVIDE: 2 D.I. boxes, two 1/4" cables, 3 mics with stands and cables. Please keep in mind this is an ACOUSTIC driven night. Hand percussion is totally cool but No drum kit allowed. You may perform to a backing track if that is your thing so long as the song is saved to a device that has an 1/8" plug in. Amps and pedal board or looping stations are allowed as long as you are able to S
