Come join us for the Hump Day Open Mic, every Wednesday at Ted's Refreshments on Mill. Sign up starts at 8 and the show gets rolling at 9. The open mic is open to music, poets, jugglers, solos, duos, even a band if you got one. And to help you get into the mood and over your hump day right, Ted's will be doing a $5 brown bag special which includes a beer, shot, and "toy" and if you're like most musician folk I know, that fits right in with our budgets. There's also plenty of tasty draughts and really great munchies as well. They have a dressed baked potato side that's practically a meal in itself. Not to mention you can entertain yourself between your set with beer pong, pool, and soon to come, skeeball.
If you're a player, we hope to see you there! and if you're not, then come down and have a listen to all the talent Tempe/Phoenix has to offer.

Our Golden Rule is “All are Welcome!!” We want a listening room, with a non-judgmental, supportive audience, that appreciates the diversity of our performers, from beginners to touring professionals. Everyone should be treated with kindness and encouraged to use their stage time to grow as a performer. Everyone is expected to listen politely to their fellow open mikers. Loud conversations should be conducted in the entryway or outside.
We are all on a journey with a wide range of goals and aspirations. We seek to help our caring community continue to thrive.
Stoney's Pub Bar
Gentle Jack Unplugged consists of three members of the Gentle Jack Band. Dave, Ken and Gary, not being satisfied with just playing Classic Rock in the band, shut off their amps and picked up their acoustic instruments. This opened the way to Americana, Traditional Folk, Country, Contemporary Pop, Ethnic and 60’s Rock and Roll. If there was one thing they liked more than playing this music, it was sharing and playing it with others.
With over 100 (yes, 100) years of combined performing time, they have played almost ever type of music out there. And if you need someone to accompany you on the fly, at least one of them probably knows what you want done. No problems with sound as a full PA and microphones are always there. There are even Direct Out boxes for your guitar or bass.
Things are never boring when Gentleman Jack Unplugged performs and everybody gets a chance to showcase their
talent and we look forward to playing some music with the very talented local musicians.
An open mic that includes extended featured performers invited to play for 30 minutes or more who emerged from the open mic.
Our participants include experienced artists as well as first-timers and emerging performers. Our purpose is to make a place where performers and writers can be guaranteed a place to be heard and supported as they develop over time. The community of listeners is always welcoming of new people, and well supported by long time regulars.
A performance slot is 10 minutes (or two songs). The performance order is determined at random by pulling names from a fishbowl. Audience members are encouraged to stay for the entire event and to be attentive and support the room as a performance space.
There is a house sound system with 3 microphones and additional capacity to plug guitars with pick-ups directly into the system.

Music Open Mic at Imurj is for local musicians to showcase their talent & skills on our fully amplified main stage - as an all ages venue, we welcome all genres and skill levels, and entry to play or watch is free.
SIGN-UP opens at 6:30pm and the stage is live at 7pm. You must be present to sign-up and the list is first come, first served. Each performer gets 2 songs or 10 minutes max on stage (on the rare slow night we can allow 3 songs). The timer begins when you take the stage, so please tune your instruments and get your backing tracks (on a flash drive) to the sound engineer in advance. We strive to foster a diverse creative community, encouraging new talent and supporting one another. Original music is highly encouraged, but covers are also welcome.
Brian Jones is your host & runs the Facebook Live stream of each performance - if you need any house equipment, please let him know and he’ll accommodate you. He will also let you know when your approximate time will be, and when that time is approaching. If he cannot find you for your turn, you’ll be moved to the end of the list, so pay attention!
We provide a full backline of instruments and are a fully amplified with a professional sound engineer. If you’re not sure if you need something, feel free to message/call us and ask! If you have gear that you can’t perform your set without, please keep it to the right of the stage so the walkways are clear for everyone to move around the venue.
INTRODUCE YOURSELF: When you take the stage feel free to remind us of your name, tell us when your next gig is, where we can find your music, and the title of your song. But save the in-depth stories for your full shows and give us something to look forward to!
Finally, we’re not here to stifle your creativity, but we are an all ages venue, so don’t force us to censor you - please help us keep it classy by keeping profanities to a minimum whenever possible, especially if you notice kids in the house. Please and thank you!

OPEN MIC AGREEMENTS:
These agreements are for performers and also audience members. This open mic exists to support and uplift marginalized folks. People who identify as women, transgender, queer, or LGBT are encouraged to step to the front. This space is for you. Allies, you are still welcome to perform, but please remember that you are not an ally just because you say you are, and you are definitely not an ally if you can not exist in this space following these agreements:
NO HATEFUL OR OPPRESSIVE CONTENT: Your performance should never include any content that is transphobic, homophobic, sexist, racist, ableist, etc. If you break this agreement the microphone will be turned off during your performance and you will be asked to exit the stage area without further comment.
RESPECT GENDER PRONOUNS: You are encouraged to introduce yourself with your gender pronouns in this space! Respect the pronouns of others as you would like yours respected. If you have not been told someone’s pronouns, please use neutral pronouns or just the person’s name. Again, asking and sharing pronouns is encouraged. If you misgender someone correct yourself and move on.
ENCOURAGE, DON’T HECKLE: Don’t make someone else’s performance about you. If you have comments, tell them afterwards. It’s already nerve-wracking enough to be vulnerable in the spotlight. On the flip side… if you hear someone mutter “ah I messed up” in between strums, an encouraging “WOO! You’re doing great!” is acceptable and encouraged. Which leads into… BE A SUPPORTIVE AUDIENCE MEMBER: Please, no talking while performances are ha
