Allen Morris (9/2008)- ok open mic, room for iprovement though. 1)the sound, ok towards the front if you are a few feet from the speakers but gets less and less audible as you move towards the back. But may be is intended that way. just an FYI for open mic aficionados. 2) the selecton method or criteria used to select "Best Performer" is not conducive to select the truly "best performer". here is an example: some performers will bring their friends neighbors, relatives and even pets and of course they will win because they have plenty of peeps and frinds to back them up with noise. then this becaomes a contest of who can bring the most people, Not "the best performer" all those with an open critical mind will notice this and other deficiencies. However, If you just want a place to play your music this open mic it's ok.

I'm sorry that your experience was less than pleasant. The "best performance selection" was not intended to make an absolute judgement on who the best musician is, who writes the best songs, who has the best stage presence; these are all subjective criteria, and as you know as a performer, your art and your craft is special to you, and you know that you are great at all the aforementioned qualities. The competition is just a fun little something intended on giving musicians the opportunity to get something back from an open mic, instead of just showing up, playing, and leaving. Just as any person, I have my own biases which skew my selection of "best performer." I'm sorry if you found my selection process upsetting.
And to affirm your statement, yes, I do believe there is room for improvement at my open mic. And if there are any suggestions, I would be wiling to hear you out and try to accommodate you in some way. Thanks for coming out, the comments, and any pending suggestions.
