- I played Tortilla Factory in fall of 2006. It's the real deal! There were serious songwriters playing - I shared a stage with Roger Henderson, who wrote the Eva Cassidy classic "Penny to my Name." Who could ask for more? Be prepared for an attentive, interested audience. Bring your best material and just take it all in. Highly recommended.
Matt Morrell (1/2008)- Very different kind of an open mike as it's not a bar. Vry organized and structures an nobody talks when you're playing although you may get a free choral backup from the crowd. Good place to hear original music too.
Cary Lichtman (5/2007)- Played there this past week (4/2005). *very much* a listening audience, lots of musicians in the audience. $1 requested donation to support the Herndon/Reston Folk club. Crowd got into the songs, singing along. Not a great place for first timers, but a great place for peer review. 10 slots available, 12 minutes each, and your time starts as soon as the guy before you stops. Signup starts at 6:30, show starts at 7:30, slots fill up early. A great gig to try out originals. Predominantly acoustic instruments. Good sound and mixer.
Skip Smith (4/2005)- Crowds are friendly and extremely intentive. Mainly into folk music but everyone is open minded. Great crowd to play for. they really love music there
jay armstrong (4/2005)- Some nights are all open mike, but once a month is a concert (although you can still sign up to play one song, after you pay the $8-15 ticket!). Usual format is 3 songs or 12 minutes. Good listening crowd.
Steve Key (2/2004)
