The people can be very stuffy and insecure. Mix of Mainer and locals. Not friendly to horn players. Not friendly, period. If they don't know you they make you feel like you have a social disease.

This open mic typically starts 9:30, open mic players don't usually start til almost 10pm. Why? Well the jazz band often plays til 9 or 9:15 then their equip broken down and moved out. Then the open mic host has to set up, play his 3-4 songs etc. etc…

There is a different host every week. Some better than others (some are really unfriendly!) Be sure to ask when you go in as many hosts do NOT have a sign up sheet. People seem to know the host(s) and have emailed them ahead of time to get a slot.

Dave Gerard is one of their best hosts. A couple of others were/ are arrogant, almost like they don't want to be there… I'd say wait for when Dave is hosting before going down -

Prepare for it to be a very late night!!

Both the host and the players were very hospitable and I was made to feel quite at home. I haven't done one like this since headlining at The Rialto or was it The Bijiou? or The Strand? No, no I believe it was "The Paramount" in Poughkipsie. Ah yes, those were the days. Hope to see you all again. C. W.

This can be both, but this is not a open mike you go to jam with a band with & you should like this one if your the player I think I"ve heard once some where before.
