We just did this open mic last night (2-14-11), had a great time, and met some cool people, signup at 7:30, they only allow 17 or so, 1 song each, we went 3rd, and it is over at 10ish, short and sweet, great host, you must buy something in order to play.

Still cool even though nobody has commented in a while. One song most of the time its true, but some pretty good talent comes and the host is, in my opinion, genuine and enjoys hosting which makes good times for all.

ok open mic.and the only reason I am short of giving it a "great review" it is only because you can usully do only one song so if they can find a way to give every body two songs then it will rival thursdays "great open mic athe gypsy den.

went there this past monday and I really had a lot of fun playing and listening to the other musicians including the host. there was plenty of listeners as well.putting all personalities and likes and dislikes outside of playing music or doing what it is that you do this is a great open mic and believe me I have seen some lousy ones this is a great open mic. Always look frorward to comming here. P.S. although they do serve alcohol it is still a family oriented venue so in order to show respect (especially children) let's keep it appropriate by keeping it relatively clean.

I haven't been here in a while but as I remember, this is a very nice open mic. lots of listeners and performers with a nice raised little stage with a piano. Usually a one song deal due to the number of performers that show up which is enough to fill the list. But I would rather play one song for lots of fellow musicians and listenters than playing for an hour for nobody in a practically empty room. Try this open mic, I think you will like it.

In response to "former employee", I understand her/his point but fact of the matter is that if participants like the host they'll go back, and if they don't most won't, sad but true.

great place plagued by pretentious musicians. they allow more than just music but disrespect anything that isn't.

honestly, if people are interested in a variety show for the sake of loving the wholesome host, watch some reruns of the johnny carson show. if you're going for the music, the food, the atmosphere, the gypsy den is well worth your time. there's a casual attitute, a familiarity and a warmth to mondays that create a drastic difference and incomparability to thursdays. apples and oranges. it's unfortunate that the many people who enjoy the host and his subtle intelligent humor aren't as outspoken as the people who just don't get it and are therefore offended. stop being petty.

I agree the host makes you want to shoot yourself he speaks in a monotonal voice his face is like stone and his music goes along with that perfectly

however… there is some talent out there so, maybe someone can kick this host out and bring John Carrillo out on Monday nights as well…

it is a low key open mike on Mondays alright. As a matter of fact if any one plans on going there on Mondays please take a bottle of anti-depressants with you and share them with the host and most of the people that go there to perform on monday nights. The host and most of the performers there play very depressing, slow and boring music. God forbid you play something happy and upbeat and if you do you'll be treated like an outcast by the host and some of his friend fellow musicians but ironically the customers seem to love the up beat stuff. oh well!

The Gypsy Den is an amazing place. Great food, excellent coffee, and great range of musicians. It tends to get slow these Monday nights. But if you're looking for a more low-key night, Mondays are the day for you. Thursday are much more stimulating and but can get a little crowded at times (never a too bad though). You wont be disapointed! The host is cool too. :)

Orange County comes alive! Wow, a very nice room, high ceiling, low stage, fine PA plus beer & wine if you like that sort of thing!
