What can be said about the Gypsy Den open mic? Started doing comedy at The Gypsy Den in 2007. Thanks John… I second Mr Hip's comment.

This is the CHAMPION of all open mikes and trully #1. a lot of people hate CHAMPIONS which explains a few of the bad but unsubstaciated negative comments. John Carrillo runs this open mike unequivacally and unshakingly like a business with a stern, firm but fair way. And this is probably the reason why this open mike is so successful. The only exception to my agrandizing but true description of this open mic is when he can't make it once in a blue moon and he has to send a substitute to fill in at which times you can really appreciate John Carrillo's presence.

from 1 to 10 this open mic is about an 8 and that's great, room for improvement mainly because of their sign up methods/tactics and inconsistencies but worth attending.

last time I was here I felt that may be I had gotten lost or something and had ended at the Fret house since they have gone to something similar to the fret house like signing all the new comers first (who are usully not any better or any more inteersting than the regulars) so I don't understand why they do this. Also, apparantly you have to show up at least two hours early to sign up since now they line up outside like in the Fret house and again, I don't understand why they do this because this actually dimiishes the chances of some one really good or entertaining showing up because any body who is rally worth watching or listening to has better things to do than to stand in line for hours to play a cuople of songs. daaa! whatever happened to common sense?

I too stopped going to this open mic because of signup practices… we signed up one evening as #9 on list and it was coming on 10pm and they still hadn't called us… people were just showing up mid-eveing and were let in to play ahead of many people that were actually signed up. It seemed the list was just a suggestion. As that was 3 years ago… going to give it another go since some friends will b there this Thursday. Love Gypsy Den for lunch and coffee anytime so hoping this Thurs will be fun at the open mic!
