Is there one on Sunday still I know it is not listed but I have been there.
Jeff Wright (12/2007)- I recently moved back to Boston from NC and so far Cantab is my Favorite open mike spot. The players and feature bands are always great. It is a fun place to play. Also you couldn't ask for a better host. Geoff is the man! Very welcoming and gracious, Geoff makes you feel at home before you play a chord. Thanks for the good times had and more to come.
Matthew James (12/2007)- Awesome!! one of the best open mics and open mic crowds I've seen! thank you!!
LeAnne Broas (9/2007)- The Monday night open mike at the Cantab in Cambridge, MA, draws surprisingly good singer-songwriters and guitar players. We also get good blues players on occasion, but almost anything goes. Our sound system isn't bad and hasn't caught on fire in weeks. I book feature acts from all over, but most are local or regional. We start at 8:00 PM and most open mikers sign-up around 7:45. You'll get a slot even if you arrive late… we usually run right up to 12:45 AM closing. Plan two songs. We began in December 1991. Take a look at past and upcoming feature acts at The Cantab's web site (linked above). The menu's there, too. The Cantab is a 21+ bar and grill with live music seven nights.
Geoff Bartley (1/2007)- Geoff is being unduly modest. The sound doesn't get any better at an open mic (or at a concert, for that matter). P.J. Shapiro, THE soundmeister, is the best. An unheard-of combination of easy-going, welcoming and professional. The best place to be on a Monday night in Greater Boston.
Richard Goldman (2/2007)- I almost feel like I shouldn't write too much about this one. The host, Jeff, stressed that we were not there on a normal night. Two birthdays and the 14th anniversary of the open mic itself all conspired to make our visit a huge celebration rather than their normal fare. Apparently… NORMALLY… sign-up starts every Monday night at around 7pm or so, and order is determined by lottery. There is a feature act who plays from about 9.30 to 10pm. It seemed a very folky night, with a surprisingly attentive bar audience. Nice stage, nice sound system, and very attentive sound guy. It was a one song night, but I don't know if that's standard - but that was easily waived for friends of the host. About Playing the Cantab: We haven't gotten to play the main stage yet, and I haven't found the secret that leads to a show there. However, we've played in the basement - which I didn't know existed. Small stage, low ceilings, loud sound system. If you plan on rocking rather than folking, perhaps this is a more legitimate aspiration.
