- I played this open mic it was great I waS LUCKY TO PLAY because i was a first timer but Barbara Cloyd the host had everyone play just one song there was about 38 players there and those were the ones who stayed.A must play!AJ Baker
Arthur J Baker (7/2008)- The Bluebird Café is the premier songwriters' venue in the world today, bar none. Every Nashville act that is ANYBODY played in the Bluebird before they got their break. Garth Brooks was signed as the result of an A&R guy from Capitol being in the audience during a performance. Trisha Yearwood waited tables in the Bluebird. The Bluebird is the ONLY venue I know of that has a "shush" rule. All audience members are requested to maintain a respectful silence while the performers are onstage (no matter how ridiculous or boring their material is). You will probably not make it onstage the first time you sign up for the Bluebird. They will stamp your ticket, which allows you to put your name in the "second try" basket the next time you're in. Second tries usually get onstage. Barbara Cloyd is one sharp cookie. She KNOWS if you do your thing and then immediately leave, failing to support the other writers. At the Bluebird, as in ALL of Nashville, you have to make sure your etiquette is IMPECCABLE. It's a VERY small town, and word travels FAST. Go for it.
Tirk Wilder (11/2006)- Those that have a stamped ticket get first dibs on OpenMic Night. If it's your first time odds are you won't play. So if you're coming from out of town and aren't staying a couple of weeks you may be out of luck. Good thing is your stamped paper is good forever. So, if you're ever in town you'll have a good chance of playing. It's still a must OpenMic and the webcast was posted the next day…
Walter Conklin (6/2005)- Barbara has hosted this show at the world renowned songwriters' club since December of 1986. She has seen such venerable talents as Kenny Chesney, David Wilcox and Garth Brooks drop by in their quest for success. Sign up begins at 5:30 when the doors open. In order to play, writers put their names in the sign-up basket. At 5:45 the names are drawn and a list is made in random order. The writers take the stage one at a time doing one or two songs each. There is rarely enough time for all the writers who sign up so those who do not get to play are given a stamp that guarantees them a spot the next time they come.
Barbara Cloyd (2/2004)- You might want to add that the Bluebird Café Open Mic is web cast live every Monday night. The shows are also archived. Viewing the webcast requires registration but is otherwise free of charge or hassle.
John Grant (2/2004)- How do you get into the web cast for the open mike night at the Bluebird? I've been trying. Thanks.
Kathleen Verdoorn (9/2007)
