- Wow, I am quoted on here huh? Nice. I love the open mic here. Reguardless what mr bradmon says, I would tell you it is always fair. The list may fill up quick, but thats is because people want to play. Very often people will sign up and leave because they know they need to early. It is my home
Jesse Passage (11/2007)-
Erik Santos has hosted this Open Mic for 4 years, first with the alt-Country Funk band CityGoat, and now joined by Dale King of Big Slik.
ALL styles are welcome, and the super versatile house band is really good at backing you up on the fly, if you need. Santos is always willing and enthusiastic about finding new directions and challenges in music, but is also good at reigning in an endlessly recycling hippie jam.
But whether song (cover or original) or spontaneous invention, the dancing is good.
The night is divided into 11 or 12 performance slots, each 20 minutes long. First come first serve. Occasionally the hosts will make tiny alterations in the list in an effort to keep things fresh (i.e. try to mix it up so that you don't have 4 acoustic acts in a row, etc.)
You can bring your own instruments, but the house band is usually willing to let you use their gear:
- Electric Guitar,
- Acoustic Guitar,
- Electric Bass (fretless),
- Drum Kit ---
This is a high-powered and extremely creative Open Mic.
I've never seen one like this…
QUOTES:
"I learn so much from this Open Mic every week." - Jesse Passage, singer/songwriter,
"Man, I can't tell you how much I wish I lived around here, so that I could do this Open Mic every week." - Brent Lewis, drummer from Pennsylvania,
"THIS is where I learned music. THIS was my greatest schooling." - Daniel Worley, original co-host of TC's Open Mic, with a doctorate in music
Christine Kitora (7/2007)- The first couple of months this open mic was good and fun, now it's turned into a nightmare for people who dont have the personel phone number of the bands guitarist. I went down there at 8:30 to sign up and the board was allready full of personal friends who had called ahead of time to have thier names put up ahead of everybody. I couldn't even play. Ive been to open mic's all over this country and never have I ran into one that was run like that. If you are a new player dont waist your time or money going there. I just feel they need to leave thier cellphones at home and let the night play itself out as the players come in the door. At least everone has an equal shot at a chance to play.
robert bradmon (3/2006)- Additionally, I should mention, the host band seems like really nice guys, they will play along with you if you want them to, the bar is laidback like a neighborhood bar should be, the sound system is good, and the servers are pleasant and cute… all of which is a good thing.
John Ludi (6/2005)- Seems like a safe bet to show up around 9 or 9:30
