- The night I went there the PA was not run particularly well mostly becuase the person running it seemed distracted by other things. Also the comment about playing as much as you like is sadly true, since I had to sit through someone playing the most banal songs you ahve ever heard for 45 minutes. Plus there were only 7 people there including the host. If they want to grow this thing it needs to be steadier in the way they run it and in who plays there.

- Warning: make sure they're holding the open mic before you go. I went last Monday and they had booked the room for another band and weren't doing open mic.

- This open mic has an extremely laid back structure and is more of an open jam session than your typical open mic. Play for practically as long as you like--one pair of guys on guitars played a 45 minute set list. The people who attend are super friendly; you couldn't ask for a better atmosphere. If you're looking for a well-structured, 3-song/15-minute gig, look elsewhere. If you're hoping to meet some fun, friendly musicians to jam with for a while, here you go.

Chris is a good guy, but this one needs to build a little. If you want to play more than 2 songs (as is the case elsewhere in Atlanta), Smith's is the place for you.
Look for parking out back, not on the street.

On the NW corner of Piedmont and Monroe. Park at Ansley Mall. This is a new event so the structure hasn't been finalized (no set amount of songs, no sign up sheet, etc). I have heard one performer rapping over a backing track, but I don't know if poets or comedians can perform. Call before heading out, I've heard Smith's may axe the event if they can't get more people. Open mike is in the "Atlanta" room. No smoking in Atlanta room, not sure about the rest of the venue.
