- everybody knows Latch can be a dick but this is new york kids it's not supposed to be nice or safe or pretty and it's an open mic which means its OPEN, So if you moved here to be a big star make other plans or something.
FrancisBruno (9/2008)- the open stage is now being run by Ben Krieger, who took over for Lach in July. cool guy. the night is still a workout with 50-80 people signing up every week… pace yourself and come on out to enjoy a great night of performances. the die-hards hang out for tea around 3am at the end of the night, which is a bit nutz… i've only made it that late once but it was an experience.
Anonymous (8/2008)- This is a tough stage to play. There are more acts than you can possibly prepare your mind for and if you find yourself playing towards the end, it will just be you and the staff. That said, it's worth playing. Some of the strongest musicians I've seen since coming to NYC have been at Sidewalk and I've met some great people. It will test everything you've got, but take it all in stride and you'll be glad you tried it. Definitely get there before 7.
Matt Morrell (1/2008)- beck also played this antifolk scene in it's early days
Anonymous (12/2007)- Not recommended. You wait too long to go on. I was there over 3 hours until I got a chance to go on. Not a fan of the random system, especially if I have to work next morning and am coming from Jersey!
