Well, it's kind of a mixed bag.
On one hand, it's a little disorganized with the list being placed out ALL week. The result is you really don't know how many performers are actually there. They really should put the list out a half hour before the time of the event (as most open mics do.) In addition, the performers are called to the stage in a sort of random order. It's loose as its a bit of a grab bag when you may actually go on. Then there's the environment; a mega music store. You'd think this would be a good venue for live music, but it's a bit sterile and as someone used to playing bars and coffeehouses, its a bit strange.
However, that said, the sound is good as you're using a new PA system with a dedicated monitor. The host is a really nice guy who makes sure everyone is taken care of should there be any sound issues. Lastly, you get a gift certificate in the mail for your performance! That's a nice reward and it helps with buying strings etc.
In the end, it's not a very "intimate" setting for the singer/songwriter, but you can't beat getting a gift certificate (via email) either. I think if it were run with a bit more focus, it could be decedent early evening stop… plus hey, gift certificate !

So, I'd like to update my previous comment here.
I've been attending the open mic for the past few weeks now and have been having a great time. Both new and familiar faces appear weekly and its turning into a fun Wednesday excursion all the while making friends and entertaining the audience. I plan on coming back often for as long as the store hosts the evening. Rodney is a considerate host and also a natural MC (introducing acts etc).
This open mic has found it's footing and rhythm. Nice job.

- ? Can I ask how many songs we can? Or, length of time?
