- The one negative that I've experienced regarding this open mic is that they have a loose kind of lottery style method of choosing the artists for their lineup. As such, though an artist may arrive early and be the first to sign up to play, due to the "lottery", that artist may be the last performer to get a chance to share their talents on stage. I say "loose" lottery because I've seen their system bent to meet the needs of some but not others. It's not a true lottery, where artists are selected at random. The lineup is decided by selecting from among those "known" by the person making the decision regarding the lineup. This makes the opportunity for an early stage appearance, by an artist who is not "known" by the group, near impossible. Which makes one wonder why they insist on using this facade lottery approach to selecting their lineup at all. I've tried, several times, to get an opportunity to play at this open mic, at a reasonable hour, but was not able to land an early slot in the lotto and simply left rather than wait for hours to offer merely one song. I live a great distance from the Q, farther, perhaps, than any other artist who regularly attends this event and don't want to have to wait for hours to play. It's frustrating arriving and signing up early and then having to wait for hours to play, while another artist, who lives far closer and is a regular attendee of this event, signs up right after I do and gets a chance to play early. Why not make it fair to all by making it first come first served? Most open mic events, that this player has attended, are set up as first come first served, with regard to their lineup.

Of all the open mic's I've been to over the last year, this is one of my favorites. Friendly people, very courteous. Audience was very attentive. lots of variety. the place is set up for the musician. I saw it as less of a cafe with an open mic in it and more of an open mic with a cafe in it. great venue.
Only thing I could say negatively is that the song limit is only one song per person unless you're the spotlight act. But at the same time its understandable because they usually do have a lot of people signed up.

- Of all the open mics I have been to locally this is the best. Good folks, good stage and acoustics and the level of muscianship couldn't be broader! Fun!

Come join the Northwest's oldest musicians' co-op at their second-longest running open mic!
Held at the Q-Cafe in Seattle, this acoustic music open mic has a great stage, the PA is provided and run by a great sound guy and an upright piano available. The room is a *listening room* with an enthusiastic and courteous audience. Espresso bar and snacks available.
Sign up between 5:45-6:15, your place on the list is determined by a random draw- so be prepared to stay the evening… the talent is *well worth it!"
