It's true. It is def not a regular open mic. We provide the audience with a true show and although the showcase saves slots in the first 90 min for walk ins, we def make people put in their time before they can pre sign up. Many players have devoted 50+ Sundays to this showcase. However, ask anyone who comes down. It makes the players better! 6 years and going strong, And we've never turned down any walk ins that come by 9pm and respect the other players. If you want to cut your teeth and get better at your craft, this is the place to do it. We individually mix every artist… we don't just leave the PA on:) We take great pride and care in the showcase… and demand the respect from those who attend for the other artists and the patrons that drive up to 50 miles just to listen. I can name a 100 plus musicians around town that will tell u that they wished there were more places that cared about the TC music scene as much as The MN Songwriter Showcase does. It's a shame that anything that ends up being "Cool" has to be labeled by someone that simply feels like that don't "fit in". Open up to your fellow musicians. Tell your story. Ask for help. I will say… those that are simply intimidated by the MNaked Players… don't be! We all started out somewhere:)

Nick and Nick,

May want to re-classify this as a by invite only show with limited open slots available. Participate in numerous open mikes throughout the cities and have been hearing alot of chatter about how this open mike is becoming somewhat snobish to new talent.

You have a good thing going that i wuld hate to have it ruined over mis-understandings.
