I have not been to the open mic yet, but I plan to. However, I did want to comment on a previous post. I just moved to the area and went there for dinner this past weekend… not sure what prices the previous poster is used to or looking for, but 4 bucks for a premium draft beer (me) and a good glass of white wine (my wife) are what I consider a fair price. Additionally, my dinner entree, shells stuffed with lobster and cheese was 13 bucks… seems like a good deal to me. I am hoping the crowd is better than some of the posts say it is though!

Host does a good job. I agree with another post that the crowd has little interest in the music. I have been several times and once there was even a heckler right next to the performers - a bald local loudmouth who is well known there. After every song you could hear his loud, obnoxious comments; very rude. He finally left after a suggestion by the establishment. The crowd there is frequently dead, wierd… The food there is overpriced and just okay, and the beer and drinks are overpriced as well.

? What time is the sign-up? Is acoustic music appropriate?

First of all, I want to thank everyone for their comments and suggestions. My name is Mike Belkas and I'm the host of this event. To answer a few FAQ's - This is an acoustic open mic, with all types of music encouraged, although most performers mainly stick to the normal bar favorites or their originals. We get started right around 7:00pm and usually run until 10:00, sometimes a little later or earlier depending on the crowd and number of performers. I want to assure you, people of every level of talent are more than welcome… I've had a seven year old girl come in with her father who plays guitar a couple of times and they get an entire room full of applause - Its adorable. Feel free to e-mail me with any questions or comments - m.belkas@yahoo.com We look forward to seeing you!

? If I arrive a little later, say 8:30 or so -- is that too late to sign up? Is there a cut-off for sign-up?

Host is very gracious, and told us most of the players come after 9pm. If you go, go later. The crowd that was there around 7-8:30ish had no interest in the music (the least of any open mike we've ever been to). This was the first time we went, to be fair and it is the crowds perogative to talk and watch the game. If you are looking for feedback on your music this may not be the place. If it doesn't bother you, the place is nice and food is good.

This is an incredibly well run acoustic open mic with a receptive local crowd. We look forward to coming back.
