This is really a more of an open bluegrass jam, but open mic performers are welcomed and given stage time. I was the only solo performer when I attended (8/30/05). The evening starts with a set from host Art Stevenson and Highwater (good bluegrass band and Art is an incredible harmonica player: worth the trip for this alone). Part of the set is recorded for a radio show on UW radio station Sunday mornings: open mic participants may be invited back to be guests on this show. The early crowd is local people dining, with UW Stevens Point students joining later. This is a local institution (6 years). After the open mic (just me that evening) the band is joined by local bluegrass/country musicians and singers who are weekly regulars. There is no signup - ask someone to point to Art and let him know you'd like to play. Web site: http://www.highwatermusic.com/northland_ballroom.htm I can't recommend this as a great open mic but it is a great time in a very unlikely location.
