- Just played again this week and loved it. Great performances, GREAT sound, and I met a lot of really cool, talented people. Decide for yourself.
Aesop (5/2008)- Don't play here. The owner is outright rude and disrespectful to musicians.
Anonymous (4/2008)- Linneman's open mic is probably the best in Milwaukee. Great sound, great talent, and Jim is a great guy who truly cares about local music. I have played many times and its always an excellent experience. If people are getting kicked out they probably deserved it.
Jake (4/2008)- Jim, the owner, is a jerk. I watched him kick out a nationally touring artist (I actually came to watch them perform) from his bar. Jim obviously was having sound issues and took it out on a very famous act. I watched about 10 people apologize to the band for Jim's actions. I won't be returning and will tell my friends to stay away. Jim needs to stay on his medication.
Jack Zibral (3/2008)- People usually stay to listen to each other at this open mic. Although there are weeks that people prefer to hang out in the bar area until they or their friends perform. There's a usual crowd of performers there, but Jim and most of the performers are supportive of newcomers. Original music is encouraged, but it is a relaxed and fun atmosphere. I recommend this open mic for every performer of any style and instrument played.
Nick (6/2006)- Definitely higher quality performers and writers here. Which makes it puzzling why only a minority of performers listened to the other acts. Some left until time for their slot, some hung out in the adjoining bar. Maybe the night I played (6/1/05) was unusual in this respect? It's a big room, excellent sound (and soundman) and I plan on going back.
