- Hey, I'd like to come and play the open mic this week but I'm eighteen years old. Can I still come?

Connor Andersen (11/2010)
- the featured artists of open mic is Colby James, lead singer of the popular local band Rune.

This Open-Mic just got started up again after a several month hiatus. Colby (the host) is a talented musician, and seems like a real good guy.
I can see how the poster below could have had issues with getting to play -- there isn't really a signup list when you show up at the bar. But if you let Colby or the bartender (Ethel) know you're hoping to play, I guarantee you that Colby will be happy to make sure you get on stage, unless there are like a dozen other people that want to play on the same night (unlikely).
It's a wide range of both talent and musical styles -- I've been to a handful of open mics, and this one had both the best sound system and structure of any I've been to.

This place has always given me the feeling that it would be a great place for an open-mic. I just noticed tonight that one has started there weekly and so I went to check it out. The PA, atmosphere and drink prices are all very much to anyone's liking. The host of this open mic however played numerous times tonight and apparently, if he doesn't know you, you don't get to play. At least that is what happened to me. Maybe I just have a big "L" stamped on my forehead but if it's billed as an open-mic and listed on this website, then shouldn't it be "open" to anyone who shows up to play ? I won't go back there until I hear that someone else is running the open-mic. Too bad for me because it's one of the closest venues to where I live, that has something like this on-going.
For what it's worth.
