- Wonderful songwriters showcase open mike. People really listen, are very supportive, and some great music floats through this little venue. It's a pleasure to play. Attention is paid to the sound, Gareth is very welcoming. They'll ask if you have all you need, help out with guitar/picks/capos. Bill is there with his bass guitar and accompanies if you like. I've had very happy nights there.
rozanne (10/2008)- This is the best unpretentious free music venue in the city. Thursday nites are like a big party of music and love, but my favorites are every-other-Wednesdays nites w/ Garrett and Nancy. It's singer-songwriters only (no covers), good set lengths, less crowded, and in my experience people really listen to lyrics most the time (even at 12:30/1am!:-) And Garrett and Nancy are wonderful talented people.
Jessica Fogle (3/2008)- Chill atmosphere. Age group is a mixed bag. Mostly 70's/folk covers, but I play original instrumentals and have always had a pleasant response. They normally have a piano and at least one guitar for public use. They also sometimes have a drum kit as well. Pretty open minded crowd.
A Novel By Its Author (2/2008)- My favorite open mic spot.
Spare Machine (1/2007)- 3 songs. The host on the evening I went was a boisterous fellow who loudly and profanely ribbed some of the performers between their songs, while alternately cussing out the crowd for being too loud, all in good fun. He was kinder to the first-timers though. It is a loud crowd, but there's a loud PA system to compete with them. Mostly a younger crowd but not exclusively. Heavy smoke. Open to originals and covers, all levels of musicians here.
