- By pro jam I guess it's any customer of Gary Gands. I've gone there to jam and either sat while friends came in and got put up or basically had to play a three chord boogie so the "pros" could play along, and Gary seems a little wrapped up in himself
Dakota (8/2008)- I am really sorry that you and Mick took such an affront at my comments Gary. I understand that you have a music store that may directly benefit from your running this jam Gary. For you and Mick it is a business thing. I get it. I play music solely for the fun of it. I go out many nights a week to play at various jams around Chicago and my comments were based on my personal experiances. You might try going out to other jams to have a drink and relax. I am sure you get a lot of fine musicians coming in these days to play. Most of them stop by other clubs to play also. Rosa's Lounge has a great vibe and some outstanding leadership as well. Mike Wheeler runs a great jam. Buddy Guy's too. Jimmy Burns and Brother John do a fine job. Kitty Moon over on Clark street is a lot of fun with Sammy Fender. The only competition as far as I am concerned is to challange oneself to stretch as a musician.
Paul (4/2007)- Paul, It's not a competition… why don't you come down to Gabe's, relax, play some blues and go home with a nice buzz. Music buzz that is, it's a lot safer! =) Stop worrying about who and what is "better" and I guarantee you'll enjoy life more. Joe Mick (the guy behind the camera)
Joe Mick (3/2007)-
Paul,
BTW Many famous musicians got their start on the original Amateur Hour, such as Gladys Knight, so I would not use this in the manner you have chosen.
I'm sure that the pro's (folks who get paid to play) that frequent the Gabes jam would not appreciate your knocks. Sorry I didn't run a list for your approval. You seem to think that only the folks who's names you drop, are worthy of the stage or are willing to share their talent with others. I'm sure Elvis is alive and well only at your spots.
Can't we all just play some tunes and have some fun or are we not worthy?
Gary Gand (3/2007)- The other cats run fine jams. No flame intended. So maybe I should say "Northshore's longest running jam, at the same club, hosted by the same guy, on the same night of the week?"
