Great room (side room), and Mark is a great host. I walked in, introduced myself and played with at least a half dozen musicians, including Mark.
Contrary to the "BRUTAL" note below, Mark started at the top of the list and walked down it through the night. Sure, there were a lot of regulars (that's what makes a crowd at a Tuesday night open mike, pal), but they got there really early to make it to the top of the list.
I was very impressed with the quality of musicianship, and the camaraderie at this open mike. Not often you see four people playing together, and all of them knowing exactly where the changes are.
Expect excellence, warmth and a very attentive (and a little raucous - hello Rudy!) crowd.
Fred Bement (3/2010)- Great open mic! Some amazing talent amongst the regulars. Newcomers continue to impress. Once each month (usually the 2nd Tuesday) it's held in the main club, which is not to be missed. Fitz's club has the best PA system, the best sight lines, the best monitor system and the best pro sound man (Mike Sharp) you'll find anywhere. The Side Bar is much smaller with a more intimate atmosphere and a decent PA. Either is welcoming and a lot of fun.
Bill Kavanagh (5/2009)- OK so there are alot of regulars that have been coming to this open mic for 17 years. In that time a few of the preformers have learned to play each other songs. There is a sign sheet that is followed by number. Each slot is Two songs.(about10 minutes) Usualy 6 preformers an hour. Sorry for about A Nonymous experience. If you were signed up 3rd you would have been on about 9:30-9:40.Please come again and try to be apart of whats going on.
Mark Bishop (Host) (4/2009)- BRUTAL! Don't waste your time ! This is definitely the ego open mike night "for members only" clique. I was the "unwelcome outsider". Although I was 3rd on their supposed sign up list, 6-8 of the "house" regulars took turns playing for hours. (no sign up needed for any of them). Disgusted, I left having never played. What's the matter guys, afraid someone else may have a little talent? Way too much testosterone here. And by the way, if your not into Zydeco or Cock fighting songs don't bother. THE WORST!
A Nonymous (2/2009)- Probably the best sound system for acoustic players, and the ambiance is just about perfect. Some great players are to be found there. Mark is a great host!
Peter C. Budd (10/2007)
