Cathy, I'd like to perform at this Friday's (1/8/2010) open mic. A few weeks ago Manny suggested that I arrive at 6:30PM to sign up. Is that still the case? Norm

There is a lot of talent at the open mic at Coffee Depot. I find the hosts are welcoming and fair, however, I feel a few of the performers are taking advantage of their generosity. Specifically, a few performers are eating up additional time with lengthy commentary/or introductions or knowingly choosing songs of length. Perhaps in their view these performers are adhering to the limits when in fact they are unknowingly extending their fair share with banter and song choice. I don't see this as a "host issue" per say - as the hosts are managing it - but I do feel that raising awareness and looking at ourselves is important. As for myself, when I listened back to my recording I felt I took a bit long getting situated up there. Next time, I'm going to be more conscientious. I would like to appeal to all to continue to be respectful to the hosts and to each other. Thank you.

Hi, I have played a few times at the Coffee Depot and greatly appreciate the opportunity. The hosts do a very nice job and this is a comfortable atmosphere to play in. However, I think there needs to be a stricter policy on time limits before the feature act. It seemed the acts prior to 8pm were given quite a bit more stage time and everyone after the feature had to rush through their songs. Thank you.
