We tried to play here last night. My singer showed up before signup time. When the host arrived my singer got on "the mental list" as the 4th performer. 45 minutes later the host announced he had a list and pulled a crumpled piece of paper from his pocket. When I enquired where we were he looked over the list and we weren't on it. Then he added us.

After an hour gone by he gave us a heads up that we were 2 performers away from going on. When those 2 performers came and went I asked the host who was next expecting him to say, "you guys are up." Instead he told me he had to get a rap group on to play a 10 minute set. 30 minutes later they wrapped up!

1:30am and it's finally our turn to go up. But my singer's had enough of this open mike and had a few choice words with the host and we walked.

Here's the problem with this open mike:

1. There's no actual signup sheet to keep things fair and honest.
2. Every performer/act gets 30 minutes on stage. This is entirely too long for an open mic. They should limit performers to 3 songs or 12 minutes to give everyone a chance. Then allow everyone to go again after the rotation runs out.
3. Signup at 10pm. Startup at 10:30. Bar closes at 2am. THIS IS ENTIRELY TOO LATE FOR AN OPEN MIKE NIGHT. It needs to start earlier!
4. We're never coming back. It's not worth it.

I played here a couple of times when I was younger and I can see where people ran into problems. Mental sign-up list aside it is still a fun place to play, if you get to play at all. I will see if anything has changed when I go play there this Thursday.

I used to go there all the time and it was an awesome place for females. Is Crisco still there and Chavaughn, Mike or steve. This is Key West i'm in Iraq and traveling the world still. Might be going to New Zealand and Australia again soon, take care, Mark

I too have been to dozens of open mikes and found this to be the worst I’ve ever come across.
