I think I am the guy who screamed his three original songs I think maybe I am mentally ill but I don't think anybody gives you a problem if you want to play solo. Open Mikes are a toss up some nights are great some nights are not. Sorry you didn't like it. I think the band is pretty good

This needs to be advertised as an “open jam with house band.” It is not an open mic, in my view. At least not in the sense that most of us are out here looking for. If you want to play covers and have a band back you up, then it’s definitely for you. But when I approached to take the mic and politely told the band sorry, they’d just mess me up, 2 of the 3 proceeded to walk out of the bar. OK,whatever. Then when I said I was doing originals, about 4 or 5 of the other patrons, some of whom were other musicians, left as well. (Including the guy who possibly was mentally ill and expected us to sit through his 3 bizarre original songs that he screamed.) Nice. At a genuine “open mic,” none of that would have been the problem it seemed to be tonight. So I played the suggested 3 songs to about 4 people; no sweat, great practice session. I was one of the last to sign up and probably could have played 3 more songs if I’d just stayed up there, but I decided to cut it short and leave on principle. Anyway, if a bar is too scared that they can’t let people up there without the crutch of a house band, that’s not an open mic; it’s an open jam with a house band. Now you know. Choose accordingly.
