Hello everybody.
THURSDAYS AT BOBBY LEWS at 8PM
2006 18th St. NW
Washington DC, 20009
THE LIST:
Names will be placed in a bucket at or before 8pm.
At 8:15 I will get behind the mic and start to draw names out at random. When you are called, THEN and ONLY then will you proceed to put your name on the list. This is how we eliminate the clambering for the good slots and the bitchery of people like me who do not have day jobs and can therefore steamroll the rest of us by getting there super early. In any case, Ill be giving the good slots (just one or two) to people who A) bring a ton of fans and/or/to-a-lesser-or-equal-but-not-greater-extent B) People who are threateningly talented.
FEATURES:
There will be a 30-45 minute feature(s) slot once we get rolling. I will approach you to feature, not the other way around. If you ask me to be featured, you will not feature, but you can earn your apology with A and/or B (see above).
On a personal Note
I will be your never-humble host Nomad. We will be playing through my two amps (one bass amp, one tube amp) I have one mic stand and my pedal board which is essentially a mixer. I will be the sound guy as I know my gear well. If you want to be the sound guy and get super loud… GREAT! Seriously, but youre gonna do it on your own amplifiers and/or PA. I am very poor, and will therefore not have you blowing out my speakers simply because you are mad about how your father did not love you and have accordingly developed a passion for Slipknot and/or whatever what-what-what rapper. This open mic will be about MUSIC, not about anybodys thinly supported emotional structure and need to believe they can make it without being very skilled, practiced, and above all ENTERTAINING at it. It will be supportive of genuine effort and genuine talent where it exists, and supportive of genuine humility and constructive criticism where it does not. It will not tolerate de-constructive criticism of any kind beyond a beyond a lack of clapping, which is to say that if you dont like someone, let the sound of the crickets chirping send them back to the drawing board and, in the words of my mother, If you dont have anything nice to say, dont say anything. Not clapping is a standard if I dont like something. Deal with it. The world needs all sorts of people to fill all sorts of jobs, but for some reason everybody wants to be a rock star and I cant figure out yall think its easy being ME!?!?!
On that note, you are encouraged to make as much noise as possible for any who kicks royal ass, as that is what this is all about.
So Come One, Come all, to Nomads Thursday Night Open Mic at Bobby Lews. Signups are at 8 pm. See you there.
