- This is a good open mic… it is not the Black Cat any longer. New owner, Gary Mack has named it Macks. Bo runs the open mic. Good sound system with good monitors. Starts out organized but trends toward disorganization the later it gets, so sign up early or you may be in a jam session instead of open mic.

- Great people and bar but, as mentioned, they might as well call it open jam. Keep your accoustic in its case. Kinda a bummer

This is a very cool little club, I had been up there on the weekends from the city and always had a great time, I decided to try Open Mike so I packed up my Taylor and my blues harps and headed up.
I tried to do an acoustic set of originals and have very strong material and presence but only a few people listened. After a couple acoustic numbers, which actually went over really well, relatively speaking---hey, I am used to coming on in a crowded bar with everyone talking and shutting up after they hear me sing a couple lines---I borrowed an electric guitar and got in a much better groove with the crowd. Still, my act is mostly originals and songs not heard that are original in the sense that no one is familiar with them.
I will probably go up again but this time with one of my Strats AND try to get a rhytmn section going. The owner is the host, she plays electric guitar with her band to warm things up and that's great except that it creates more of an open jam than an open mike.
From the perspective of the audience, it is wicked cool. They have some, shall I say, rather eccentric regulars who do some evry odd but appealing music. This one guy did a suicidal reading of Hermans Hermits' Something Tells Me I'm into Something Good. It was surrealistic.
Bottom line to performers: Go with the idea to jam or if you are an acousitic original act who wants to get battle tested, try it. Fools rush in where angels fear to tread!

Nicole Anderson (8/2006)
- I was a little intimidated going into this one, because I'm all acoustic originals. Ms. Anderson is correct about the open jam-iness aspect, however they were really receptive to what I brought to them as well. They had a pretty vast variety, from straight-musical-classic-latin-jazzy to beatbox rap to rock & roll. It was a lot of fun.

Phoenix (10/2006)
- Fun, party atmosphere. Intimate club. Talented regulars. Open to all styles of music.
