I attended this open mic june 3, 2007 and what a great open mic it is!! Here is my review:
Venue: classy, swanky and relaxed, with some low-key regular patrons, a few visiting groups of international travelers and sunday-night downtowners out for a chat and a drink.
Sound System: Excellent! What a great, full, well-toned sound, easily heard in all areas of the bar but not overpowering.
Players: there were three people playing (so I almost hate to tell more people about it, it was such a nice night of music) I played 7 songs, in two sets. I really liked the other two musicians, so I relaxed and enjoyed the music myself!! Although not limited to certain styles, I think the mood was alt-folk music -- think johnny cash, fiona apple, aimee mann, shins, beatles. A great time to try out your thoughtful works, to relax and play.
Parking/travel: it's Sunday night, so it's not busy in this area and parking is FREE on Beacon street, both sides of the street. (it's past Boston Common where Beacon becomes one-way and it's no longer restricted to Beacon Hill residents).
Bar: really great strong drinks (my gig and tonic was excellent!), swell bartendress, decent prices ($5.50 for gin/tonic). Check the website for specials, there was a 3$ beer special as well.
Deb Irene (6/2007)- Sign up at 8:45. Music starts at 9 PM. Musicians, poets, comedians welcome.
