- Mike is a musician's friend and knows how to keep things moving. Find him, introduce yourself, and you're good to go. You won't find a harder working, more accommodating host anywhere.
Fred Bement (5/2008)- Wow! I just read some of the comments on this web site and I don't want to be in the middle, but for the players who go out a lot they can tell you that if you don't like the jam move on. There are open mikes some some good & some real good just be glad that there is one. Open mikes are not easy to run if really want to find out, find a bar or coffee house that is willing to take the chance and start one. Yes, once a week every week good luck. One more thing I do sample all the open mikes I can go too in MA, NH & ME. If I can go twice I will just to make sure that I give them a chance or they give me a chance. Let's support live music. It really is getting tuff out there.
Jeff Wright (5/2008)-
I just found out about this website and I thought I'd put my two-cents in! First of all kudos to Johnny G the owner for giving us a place to do what we love. Secondly, props to the host Mike Michaels for continuing to do this AND provide his equipment for people he doesn't even know to perform with (not usually provided by any other open mic I've been to).
I've been going to this jam off and on since it's inception and I will admit that it isn't always perfect, but that is the price we pay in order to have a place where all levels of skill are welcome. I have personally watched novice players improve over time with Mikes support and suggestions. Try to find another place that will give you that chance.
Me and my band, 2nd Childhood, have enjoyed playing there many times, as a group and playing with other people. As for those elitist players who don't feel that this show is professional enough for thier tastes, try to remember back to when you first started playing and you were looking for people to learn from! Since I believe that players tend to improve faster when playing with people more accomplished then themselves, I think it's a shame more of the local musicians don't support this event.
To all who do support this venue, WAY TO GO!!!
Keep the flame burning for the next generation of musicians!
Thanks for reading my opinion.
Jimmy LeMere (4/2008)- Just to set the record straight.I've been hosting these jam sessions for over 600 hundred shows and at each and every one I mention several times that if you are a new muscian and/or a singer just talk to me , my name is Mike, and I'll make sure you get to do your thing. Obviously some don't get it, and so those comments are unfounded. Now some muscians do suck and they don't know it, and to those I might suggest a tip for them to go and practice and then come back and try again (we're here two nights a week). Please remember, there are several other muscians on stage and an audience that really don't want to listen to bad sounds. As far as the neighborhood goes, it is a beautiful cross-cultural section of AMERICA; open your eyes! About my being rude, well, I admit I my bark occaionally, but think about my situation, being around egos and alcohol. My job isn't always easy; you ought to try it yourself sometime! But one thing's for sure, after over 600 hundred performances, our music is as good as your hear anywherein this good 'ole U.S.of A. !!! By the way, we let all jammers play around 20 to 30 minutes each. Compare that to any other jam session in New England, most only give you two songs, and even with a sign-up sheet, and most times you have to sit-in witha house band! If you feel you didn't get enough playing time in ensemble, come back again, remember we're here two nights a week. I'm sincerely sorry if I've offended anyone, it was not intentional.(We've also got some JBL monitors now too) Yours truly, Mike Michaels P.S. How about that photo of the one and only Luther "Guitar Junior" Johnson jammin' at 3-G'S?!!!!
Mike Michaels (4/2008)- Hey sandy d. and jack blake, I've been jamming for over 600 hundred shows and at every single one I've mentioned several times that if you,re a new muscian and/or a singer just talk to me ,my name's Mike, and I'll make sure you get to do your thing. Obviously you two didn't do so, so your comments are really unfounded (unless your talent really sucks and to you I would kindly make suggestions so you can improve and practice some more and come back and try again. You should be aware of all the novices that started here and have improved enough to be in working bands now! If you do suck, which I have a feeling you do but don,t know it, I'll still let you do your thing, but don't expect me to let you ruin it for the rest of the jammers and my audience. As for the location, the neighborhood is a fantastic cross-section of America, just open your eyes please. As for me being rude, whose being rude here? Sure, I my bark once in a while, but with some alcohol and egos my job ain't always easy, try it yourself sometime. But one thing's for sure, after over 600 hundred performances our music is as good as it can get ANYWHERE IN AMERICA!!! SO SCREW YOU!!! And, by the way, we let every and all jammers at least 20 to 30 minutes playing time in ensemble; compare that to any other jam in New England where, even with a sign-up sheet, you'll still only get to play 2 songs, and at most venues you have to sit-in with the house band! If you compare us to all the others, generally you get enough of your playing time in, and if not on that night, come back again , every night is different and we'll try it again. But like I mentioned earlier, if you suck, well ,good luck, maybe a little practice will help.In conclusion, I'm sincerely sorry if I've offended anyone out there, it wasn't intentional! P.S. Isn't that a cool snapshot of the one and only LUTHER "GUITAR JUNIOR" JOHNSON jammin' at 3-G'S! Yours truly, Mike Michaels
